Private house in Bayswater

We were commissioned to renovate and extend a Grade II Listed private family house in Bayswater. Completed in 2017, the proposals seek to create a harmonious overall architectural composition.

The original villa had been very poorly served by later extensions and remodelling. These extensions loomed over the original villa, the original plan form of which was lost in an amorphous wrap of later construction.

Replacement wings are constructed to a lower height and a reduced width, lending a finer proportion to the wings and serving to reveal the plan form of the original villa. A mansard roof to the villa underscores its primacy at the centre of the composition.

Internally, the historic interiors of the listed villa are restored. A new cantilever stone stair weaves together the internal and external floor levels connecting old and new. The new wing creates a contrasting multi–level living space.
