The Kensington Building Shortlisted for New London Retrofit Award

24 10 2022

We are excited to announce that The Kensington Building has been shortlisted for a New London Award within the Retrofit Category.

Having already been nominated for an AJ Architecture Award and WAF Award, the Pilbrow & Partners team is delighted that the building, completed in May this year, has been recognised once again.

Located on the site of the old Pontings department store, the bleak, 1970s structure has been transformed and now delivers 95,000ft2 of BREEAM Excellent and WELL Standard Gold workspace and 34,000ft2 of retail space. The people-centred retrofit also incorporates around 12,300ft2 of terraces, promoting bio-diversity and enhancing everyday wellbeing and work-life quality.

Supported by the Mayor of London, New London Awards celebrate London, seeking the very best new projects across every sector, recognising both built and unbuilt schemes; those that are already making and will make a positive contribution to their surroundings in the future.

The Kensington Building is also eligible for the People's Choice Award. In association with the London Festival of Architecture, Londoners are invited to vote for their favourite project from the 2022 shortlist. The scheme with the most votes will be awarded with the People’s Choice Award. Votes can be cast here:

It has been just fantastic working with AshbyCapital and Janson Urban on this project and we are looking forward to the results being announced at the awards’ ceremony taking place in November at the Guildhall in London.
