Gorana Shepherd, previously of Gillespies, has joined Pilbrow & Partners as Head of Urban Design. Gorana is an architect and urban designer who specialises in masterplanning and strategic city-regional planning.

With a particular interest in integrated development planning, Gorana has advised clients in public and private sectors on development frameworks, structure plans, tourism development and destination branding, citizen engagement and city-making processes.

She is passionate about cities and their development, particularly ways to boost economic prosperity, enhance public spaces and foster a creative, diverse and dynamic street life.

Prior to joining Pilbrow & Partners, Gorana was Head of Urban Design at Gillespies, having previously worked for a number of international architecture practices – including Allies and Morrison, AECOM and HOK.

She has worked on masterplanning and public realm projects of large scale in the UK and abroad, including on a masterplan for New Moscow, a 5,000ha new city in the Middle East, a brief for the development of the City of Astana 2025, and a masterplan for EXPO Dubai 2020.

Commenting on her appointment, Fred Pilbrow said: “We are delighted to welcome Gorana on board. Soon we will be celebrating five years in business and it is very encouraging to see how the practice – now more than 60-people strong – has developed. We see Gorana’s experience in the UK and abroad as a great fit for our future ambitions of developing our urban design expertise in the UK and beyond.”

Gorana Shepherd adds: “I have followed Pilbrow & Partners’ progress as it has developed and am truly excited to work with such a talented and dynamic team. With ever-increasing importance being given to cities and urbanism within our profession, I look forward to working with the practice’s strong design ethos and passion for multidisciplinary and wonderfully complex city-making projects.”
