In 2019 Pilbrow & Partners were invited to collaborate with OMA on behalf of U+I to prepare development proposals for Guinness’s iconic St James Gate Brewery site in Dublin.
The proposals were selected to a short-list of three and now await the final determination of the competition.
Arthur Guinness established his brewery in the Liberties with a 9000 year lease signed in 1759. The complex grew in scale to encompass over 20 historic structures, many of which are listed.
In 2015 brewing ceased on a site that had for the previous two centuries been gated off from the surrounding city. Our masterplan approach for the site’s regeneration explores its reconnection to the Liberties through an approach we termed Opengate, promoting collaboration and enterprise.
