The proposals for 344-350 Old Brompton Road will repair a long-term vacant site to deliver 51 new homes and a welcoming point of arrival from West Brompton Station at the entrance to the Earls Court Masterplan.

High quality new public realm will provide an attractive setting for the development. The design of the public realm has been developed with reference to RBKC’s Streetscape Guidance to ensure that the site remains atmospherically in keeping with Kensington and Chelsea, despite its varied surrounding context and location on the western boundary of the Royal Borough.

The proposed development is both a contemporary response to its heritage context and a landmark in its own right. A consistently high design quality has been applied across the development from the crown of the building to its interface with the pavement. Careful detailing and the use of high quality, timeless, crafted and robust materials will ensure that the building stands the test of time.

A tall building at the southwest corner of the site, articulated with filigree balconies and glazed brick, functions as a marker for West Brompton station and the Masterplan’s southern gateway.

The external architecture reinforces the character of the neighbouring Conservation Area while establishing a transition in scale between the historic and emerging contexts.

The proposed landscaping knits the site seamlessly into the surrounding streetscape. The landscaping has been designed with reference to RBKC’s Streetscape Guide 2012 to achieve this continuity with the local context and sense of place.

The proposals include a mix of studio, one, two, three and four bedroom homes to meet a range of housing needs within the local community. The plans include a generous landscaped communal garden and balconies, providing outdoor amenity space for residents to relax in and enjoy.

The building has been designed to maximise natural light, with apartments benefitting from dual aspect outlook and open views to the south and west of the site.
