Fred Pilbrow led the team at PLP Architecture designing the second phase of the Heron development in the City of London: the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences. The scheme was granted planning consent in 2011 and is currently under construction.

The project demonstrates the capacity to develop a clear design response to a complex brief and major inner-city site, including the proposal for a tall building within the Bishopsgate Conservation Area, the provision of residential accommodation at the heart of the City of London, the integration of new and old buildings and the required relocation of a listed building on the site.

A rare and much needed element within London’s financial district, the second phase of the Heron development supports a lively and safe public realm which provides legibility and connects one of the city’s prime thoroughfares and Liverpool Street Station to the eclectic facilities of Spitalfields Market and Houndsditch as well as the smaller scale pedestrian routes and quieter ambience of Bishopsgate Conservation Area.
